(Menu) Cafe Martinique. Menu cover SIGNED by Harry Belafonte and Sidney Poitier, as well as the restaurant manager.

16.5x11.5". Paradise Island, Bahamas: Cafe Martinique, [1972].

Cafe Martinique was an elegant restaurant and casino on Paradise Island, and became famous when the James Bond movie Thunderball filmed a scene there. According to the previous owners, they were in the restaurant at the same time Belafonte and Poitier (from Martinique and the Bahamas, respectively) were having dinner together. Friends of the manager, the guests had him as well as the two stars sign the menu cover. (The internal menu is lacking). Paradise Island once was called Hog Island due to its original inhabitants, before investors turned it into a vacationers dream. The Café Martinique was one of the first restaurants to open, inviting the rich for dinner and drinks. Some creasing and faint foxing from age, else very good.
