(Menu - Haiti) Incres Line Cruises. M/S "Victoria" Dinner.

2 pp. Cover art by Salnave Philippe Auguste. 10.25x7". N.p.: Nov. 11, 1963.

Painting (7.5x6.5") by Haitian artist Salnave Philippe Auguste is titled "Marchande de Lait," and depicts a woman walking with a milk jug on her head, ladle in hand. This artwork was presented by the Galerie du Centre d'Art in Port au Prince, Haiti, and is one of a series of menu covers by Haitian artists done for Incres Cruise Lines. According to the bio of Auguste on verso, " What distinguishes this newest and potentially most important artists from other Haitian primitive painters is his education and culture; he has been a self-taught lawyer, three times a Magistrat de Paix and has written tomes on the law. In his early fifties, faced with the bringing up and educating of eight children, he turned only very recently to painting and has won immediate recognition." Near fine.
