Welcome to Omnivore Books on Food's New Online Store

(*NEW ARRIVAL*) (Paris) La Tour d'Argent.

15x10.25, folding out to 20" with two front flaps. Embossed silver heavy stock, illustrated with a vintage image of Notre Dame and vicinity. Paris: c.2000's.

La Tour d'Argent claims to be Paris' oldest restaurant, though records are spotty. We know that by the 1890's, the restaurant was owned by Frédéric Delair, who began the tradition of presenting a numbered certificate to each person who ate the restaurant's signature dish, pressed duck. A dinner was held there for the Wright Brothers in 1906, and in 1912, the Terrail family bought the restaurant. It was operated first by André Terrail, then by his son Claude, who died in 2006 at the age of 88, and then by Claude's son André. A decadent menu in every way.
