Welcome to Omnivore Books on Food's New Online Store

(French) Fisher, M.F.K. and the editors of Time-Life Books. The Cooking of Provincial France.

2 vols. Illus. from photographs by Mark Kauffman. Vol. I pictorial boards, Vol. II spiral-bound flexible boards (with recipes), both in fitted slipcase. NY: Time-Life Books, [1971].

Perhaps the most famous of the Time-Life Foods of the World series, because the author was one of the most famous food writers alive at the time. Volume I is a love letter to French cuisine, with whimsical chapter headings such as "Poultry: Those Foolproof Fowl," and "Vegetables: Not So Slowly." Fisher's memories of her travels through provincial France are on full display here, and illustrated with nostalgic photographs of a time gone by. Usual fading to spine lettering, else near fine.
