(Civil War) Mrs. S.G. Knight. Tit-Bits; or, How to Prepare a Nice Dish at a Moderate Expense

124 pp. Blindstamped brown cloth, gilt-lettered spine. First Edition. Boston: Crosby & Ainsworth, 1865.

A book of American recipes, with emphasis on Southern ones, published in the final year of the Civil War. Many of the recipes are attributed to others, as in Mrs. Lincoln's apple pudding or Mrs. Hooper's pop-overs. Recipes include fresh egg nog, Baltimore meat pie, New Orleans gumbo, stewed Maryland oysters, Philadelphia oyster ketchup, Down East fritters, and Jamaica Plain tapioca. Mild chipping to spine ends, else a very good copy of a scarce Civil War-era cookbook.
