(California - Oakland) Oakland Navy Mothers Club. Navy Mothers Cook Book.

126 pp. Frontis. image of the clubhouse. Spiral-bound yellow wrappers. First Edition. Oakland: Oakland Navy Mothers Club, c.1940's.

A book of recipes by mothers of servicemen, with one page in the back given over to recipes from their fathers. Oakland's naval station was well-integrated, with a large African American population living in Oakland, but there is a lack of history about the group's members, other than their names. Recipes include watermelon pickle, maraschino cherries, booze cake, Blue Jackets special (hot milk cake), beef & rice Southern style, pepper steak, barbecue sauce, etc. Creasing to page corners inside, else very good.
