$200.00
Illus. with drawings on colored paper by Paul Whitman. Pictorial stiff wrappers, paper printed in red & black. Second Edition. Del Monte, CA: Hotel Del Monte, [1936].
A lively compilation of favorite recipes by well-known men and women of letters, actors, artists, and others from the time: Irvin S. Cobb on Southern hash, Lynn Fontaine and Alfred Lunt on meatballs, H.L. Mencken (on his lack of ability to cook anything), poet Robinson Jeffers, movie critic Bob Wagner, playwright Sherwood Anderson, actress Norma Shearer (stuffed crabs and mushrooms). John Steinbeck (his recipe is called "Tortilla Flat" after his novel of the same name), Gertrude Stein (Del Monte's abalone chowder), and many more. A fantastic book, with charming illustrations. Chipping to edge of front wrapper, else very good.
