(California) Cerwin, Herbert, ed. Famous Recipes by Famous People.

$150.00

Illus. by Sinclair Ross. 9x6.5", jacket. San Francisco: Lane Publishing, 1940.

First published in 1936, this is a newly illustrated edition published by Lane (publisher of Sunset Magazine). A lively compilation of favorite recipes by well-known men and women of letters, actors, artists, and others from the time: Irvin S. Cobb on Southern hash, Lynn Fontaine and Alfred Lunt on meatballs, H.L. Mencken (on his lack of ability to cook anything), poet Robinson Jeffers, movie critic Bob Wagner, playwright Sherwood Anderson, actress Norma Shearer (stuffed crabs and mushrooms). John Steinbeck (his recipe is called "Tortilla Flat" after his novel of the same name), Gertrude Stein (Del Monte's abalone chowder), Alice B. Toklas, and many more. A fantastic book, with charming illustrations. Short tears to jacket extremities, 1" piece lacking to jacket spine head area, small faint spot to front jacket panel, else very good and bright.
