Illus. with woodcuts by Eric Carle. Jacket. First Edition. Cleveland: World Publishing, 1965.
Great food history notes written at a time when many of these food festivals were fresh in memory, from all across the U.S., with recipes for regional specialties, incl. a whole Mid-Atlantic States section. Perl was an early and prolific American food historian, who studied and wrote much about Native American and pioneer cuisines and cultures, as well as books on Mediterranean and Danube lands foods and festivals. Early illustrations by Carle, who became a very famous children's book author and illustrator.
Ex-Library, with Dewey Decimal sticker to lower jacket spine, rubber stamps to front free endpaper & rear free endpaper (along with card catalogue checkout envelope & slip). Lower edges of cloth rubbed, jacket panels neatly adhered to pastedowns, still very good and bright - a valuable contribution to the canon of American regional food history.
