Bitter Sweet: A Wartime Journal and Heirloom Recipes from Occupied France (Kitty Morse) *Signed*
$35.00
/
Kitty Morse presents a pair of notebooks written in 1940 by her great-grandparents, French Jews, during WWII. The journals and this book offer an account of daily life in the occupied city of Nancy told through her great-grandmother's recipe collection.
Part family history, part adapted cookbook, Morse paints a detailed picture of her great-grandparents' lives. The book includes family photographs and images of the original notebooks.
Among the recipes are a leek and potato soup with sorrel, rice pudding with cherries and Kirsch cream, green peas with mint and wilted lettuce, Alsatian flatbread, and cherry and strawberry preserves.
