Chalfonte-Haddon Hall. A Merry Christmas 1934 Menu
$60.00
/
2 pp. 9.25x6.25". Image of a trio of jester musicians and their dog playing music outside a castle, under a stained glass window, printed in green and red, with metallic silver sprinkles. Atlantic City: Chalfonte-Haddon Hall, Dec. 25, 1934.
The Chalfont and Haddon Hall hotels opened across the street from each other in 1868 and 1869, respectively; Atlantic City’s first Boardwalk appeared in 1870. Shortly thereafter both hotels moved about 400 feet closer to the ocean. In 1942, the properties became important WWII hospitals, and reverted back to hotels after the war. This Christmas menu for 1934 featured classics like roast goose with chestnut filling, candied sweet potatoes, mince pie, and Christmas meringue. Near fine.
