Naz's Dastarkhan: Home-Cooked Favorites from a Pakistani Kitchen (Syeda Naz Nazar)
Naz’s Dastarkhan (literally “tablecloth”) is a beautifully-presented collection of heirloom Pakistani and North Indian recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. Written in a clear and accessible style by master chef Syeda Naz Nazar, they represent the very best in traditional as well as modern Pakistani cuisine, along with some choice family favorites.
Arriving in America from Pakistan in 1973, Naz spent years collecting recipes from her elders back home and translating their “andaza” into exact and reliable measurements that can be easily followed. These, along with her memorable anecdotes, useful and time-saving tips, and glossary of Urdu terms make cooking even the most elaborate dishes easy, fun, and delicious every time. From basic homemade staples like ginger-garlic paste to the intricate complexities of a delicate Murgh Musallam, Naz’s Dastarkhan is a glorious spread as generous as the chef who shares it with us.
