Lyman (1831-1912) edited the short-lived American Cookery, which then became Dining Room Magazine, until its demise in 1877. Issues include Aunt Kate Hunabee's column; book and journal reviews; children's cookery; cookery for the sick; letters from readers; poetry and prose selections; recipes and contributed recipes (with attributions); and references to cooking schools. Promotional tie-ins with Royal Baking Powder, Dobbin's Electric Soap (later with Higgins German Laundry Soap), and Duryeas' Corn Starch. Some issues includes Health Food Company advertisements against using "Graham" Flour, Crushed Wheats, Wheaten Grits, and other cereal foods. The magazine featured articles by such notable writers as Mrs. Henry Ward Beecher, Emily Huntington Miller, and Margaret E. Sangster. One issue with long closed tear along spine, a few spots & some fading, else very good.
