Jacket. First Edition. NY: Vantage Press, [1982].
An important work, cited by Toni Tipton-Martin in The Jemima Code, the McQueens explore the culinary connections between West African food traditions and the heritage of Black American families. It bridges traditional African diaspora flavors with foundational ingredients and recipes: groundnut stew, dried monkey meat soup, chicken-seafood palm butter, eddoe stew, etc. The authors were also part of the back-to-Africa movement, and lived briefly in Liberia (where Adele McQueen edited a Liberian cookbook).
Ex-library with number in Sharpie to upper front jacket panel; small French library rubberstamp and numbers in ink to title page. Minor paper loss to jacket spine, else very good. Scarce.
