70 pp. Illus. with drawings. Pictorial white wrappers. First Edition. Nairobi: East African Literature Bureau, c.1950's.
Bilingual, in Swahili and English. Established in 1947, the East African Literature Bureau was created by the British High Commission to combat illiteracy and foster local authorship across East Africa. This guide for new mothers includes illustrations for the illiterate, as well as being written in two languages. Advice covers the gamut, including nutrition, both for the mother-to-be and the baby. Also included are chapters on feeding your baby and eventually weaning onto solid foods, home birth, bedding and clothes for the newborn, bathing, and family planning (with a crazy illustration of a well-planned family vs. a poorly planned one!).
Mild soiling to wrappers, underlining to a couple pages, else very good.
