$30.00

Illus. with drawings in color by Kaz Sekimachi. Spiral-bound pictorial card covers. Second Edition. Berkeley: Consumers Cooperative of Berkleley, 1962.

The Consumers Cooperative of Berkleley operated from 1939 to 1988,. At its height, it was the largest cooperative of its kind in North America, with over 100,000 members. The CCB evolved out of the Berkeley Buyers' Club, formed in the midst of the Great Depression on January 27, 1936, by a small group of families active in Upton Sinclair's EPIC and local Democratic Party clubs. Its bankruptcy and collapse in 1988 has provoked intense discussion over how food cooperatives should be operated.

Faint water stains to outer areas of front cover and title page, with tanning to title page as well; a bit of paper loss from price label removal from front cover, else good.
