A fantasically thorough guide for surviving in the wilderness and at sea during a military snafu. All climates are considered, with special emphasis on surviving in the desert, the jungle, and the ocean. Foraging and cooking are major elements, with identification of edible plants and animals in various climates, avoidance of poisonous types, and how to handle (kill, butcher, and eat) large animals like caribou, polar bears, and walrus.

There are visusal lessons in how to crack a coconut, build a fire make a tourniquet, obtain water from a cactus barel, etc. Also included of course are sections on everyday considerations like, "Survival in Areas Contaminated by Radiation," and "Survival on Sea Ice," as well as how to build a shleter, clothing, navigation, and health, and how to not die.

A few smudges and spots to covers, else very good - a fascinating portrait of what it's like to be lost in the wilderness during wartime, and published in the midst of the U.S. war with Vietnam.
