(*NEW ARRIVAL*) (Vegetarian) The Farm Vegetarian Cookbook
Intro by Stephen Gaskin. Illus. with drawings and photographs. Pictorial wrappers. First Edition. Summertown, TN: The Farm/Book Publishing Co., 1975.
In 1971, The Farm began its journey toward becoming the largest hippie commune in the world. Stephen Gaskin was a creative writing teacher from San Francisco State University who left his position to play an active role in the changing times. From San Francisco, a caravan of 200 busses traveled across the country to settle on a 1,000-acre former cattle ranch in Summertown, Tennessee.
The Farm developed a vegetarian diet based on soy protein to serve as a model for planetary food sustainability. Many recipes were developed and turned into cookbooks sold through the community’s Book Publishing Company, one of its first businesses. The book contains recipes for all sorts of wonderful hippie dishes, like Beatnik baked beans, instructions for making tempeh, soy fritters, Jane's gringo pozole, "farmola," etc.
Fine condition.
