(Wisconsin) E. Eldred Magie, ed. Milwaukee Cook Book. SIGNED!
380 pp. Illus. with ads for Milwaukee businesses. Flexible maroon cloth. First Edition. Milwaukee: Mrs. J. Magie, 1894.
SIGNED by Magie on the dedication page. Replete with wonderful pictorial ads for local businesses of the day, like carriages and furs. The book is formally dedicated to the Wisconsin Training School for Nurses, for whom the book sales most likely benefitted. Queen Victoria's browned grouse, whortleberry pudding, mushroom soup, game soup (with squirrel or rabbit), blinchitz pirogi, pigeons with green peas, stewed wild pigeons, snipe, stewed rabbit with prunes, frogs, baked pike, shad roe, etc. A few pages in rear describe the progress of the Wisconsin General Hospital and the Wisconsin Training School for Nurses. Old tape to inner joints, chipping and short tears to a number of pages, which are fragile, otherwise about very good. Scarce. Brown 4359.
