ANNA ANSARI is an Iranian-American food writer whose work explores the intersections of food, migration, and memory. Raised in Detroit and now based in London, she studied at Barnard and Yale before turning her attention to writing. Her essays have appeared in Pit Magazine, Eaten Magazine, and Fillerzine, and her warm, witty storytelling has earned praise from Meera Sodha, who calls her “one of the best writers I know.” Follow her at @thisplacetastesdelicious.
SILK ROADS: In this rich and delicious debut, Ansari takes readers on a culinary, historical, and personal odyssey across the Silk Roads. Weaving together essays, family photography, and 90 recipes, she brings to life the flavors of these storied routes—from the walnut groves of her father’s Iranian childhood and Uzbek markets brimming with fragrant melons to the bustling neighborhoods of modern-day China. Discover dishes from Baku to Beijing: saffron-scented Azeri stews with crispy-bottomed rice, dill-infused noodles from Khiva, Georgian cornbread, Uyghur lamb chops, and an array of dumplings--from fat, spiraled oromo to tiny, stuffed dushbara in a delicate saffron broth. Plus, refreshing drinks and sharbats, and American (and British)-inspired desserts like apple-and-quince pie, sticky persimmon pudding, and spiced walnut blondies.
