In Spanish. Hi, I'm Alicia Maher and I wrote and published El Salvador, Delicious Flavors: 75 Authentic Recipes from Traditional Salvadoran Cuisine to rescue and preserve the culinary heritage of my country, El Salvador. I was born in Santa Ana, into a family of cooks. I learned to cook from my mother, grandmother, aunts, and friends. The recipes in the book have been passed down in my family from generation to generation.
I am proudly Salvadoran, the mother of three children, born in the United States. It is a great honor and responsibility for me to be known as the culinary ambassador of El Salvador. I earned my bachelor's degree in art history from UCLA, class of 1992. In addition to being a writer, I am also a cooking teacher, give talks on the history of Salvadoran food, and cook for private events. She loved shopping with her grandmother at the markets in Santa Ana and Ahuachapán for fresh produce such as meats, vegetables, fruits, legumes, and spices. She learned Salvadoran culinary traditions from her paternal grandmother, her numerous aunts, and her friends.
