(Southern - South Carolina) Rhett, Blanche S. 200 Years of Charleston Cooking. (Copy)

$300.00

Ed. by Lettie Gay. Intro & explanatory matter by Helen Woodward. Illus. from photographs, incl. frontis. port. of two African-American children vendors on Tradd Street. Red dec. cloth, jacket. First Edition, Revised Printing. NY: Random House, 1934.

Includes a new, 24-page chapter on plantation drinks, incl. cherry bounce, St. Cecelia Punch, Otranto Club Punch, Plantation Toddy, etc. Printed just 4 years after the first edition, this work is important as it not only contains early Charleston recipes, but it also has editorial content about the history and inception of the recipes.

Jacket is complete but in three pieces, with much chipping, tape, and soiling. And yet! Still rare to find in a jacket at all. Rear joint starting, original owner's name (Emma Spitzer, Versaille, KY) to front free endpaper, else good.
