OFFSITE EVENT! Melissa King • Cook Like a King: Recipes from My California Chinese Kitchen
This event is being hosted by the JCCSF. Find out more details and buy tickets here!
“
“Cooking is how I tell my story—one bowl of congee, one flash-fried scallion, one plate of dumplings at a time. It’s a love letter to my mother’s kitchen, the California coast, and every queer Asian kid who ever wondered if they belonged.”
Join Chef Melissa King—Top Chef winner, culinary trailblazer, and beloved food personality—for a deliciously personal evening celebrating her debut cookbook, Cook Like a King: Recipes from My California Chinese Kitchen.
With warmth, humor, and irresistible flavor, Melissa shares the stories behind her signature dishes that fuse Cantonese heritage with California creativity. From scallion oil noodles to miso-maple sticky ribs, this is comfort food reimagined—rooted in tradition, elevated with innovation. She will be joined in conversation by Michelle Tam.
Michelle Tam is the co-creator of the Saveur Award winning food blog, Nom Nom Paleo. Together with her husband, Henry Fong, they’ve also produced a two-time Webby award winning cooking app, authored three New York Times bestselling cookbooks, have been nominated for a James Beard Award, and created a best-selling line of paleo spice blends.
All are welcome. Come hungry for stories—and maybe a cookie or two.
