(Food Writing) Palmer, Arnold. Movable Feasts: A Reconaissance of the Origins and Consequences of Fluctuations in Meal-times with special attention to the introduction of Luncheon and Afternoon Tea.

$60.00

Illus. Jacket. First Edition. London: Oxford Univ. Press, 1952.

An inquiry into the timing of meals throughout history, beginning in 1780. In William the Conqueror's time, dinner was served at 9:00 a.m.; by the 1930's, it was at 9:00 p.m. Palmer is fascinated by the changing meanings of mealtimes, and looks through history for examples of how it morphed over time. Minor chipping to jacket spine ends, else very good.
