Gray, Patience. Honey from a Weed: Feasting and Fasting in Tuscany, Catalonia, the Cyclades and Apulia.

$125.00

Illus. with drawings by Corinna Sargood. Jacket. First American Edition. NY: Harper & Row, 1987.

In the early 1960's, writer Patience Gray met and fell in love with the Belgian artist and sculptor Norman Mommens. They embarked on a journey around the Mediterranean to Provence, Carrara, Catalonia, the Greek island of Naxos, and finally southern Italy, wherein 1970 they settled in Apulia, in a farmhouse named Spigolizzi. She writes about this journey in Honey From a Weed, a book about rural life, folklore and cookery, full of recipes featuring peasant food. She refused to have such modern conveniences as the refrigerator, telephone or electric light at Spigolizzi, and foraged for many a meal. Jacket mildly faded, else very good.
