Nancy Matsumoto Author Event • Reaping What She Sows

We offer first come, first served seating in our shop. There will be overflow room outside if needed and the author will be mic'd. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Nancy Matsumoto is a Toronto-based writer and editor who covers food, agriculture, and the environment. Her publications include the James Beard Award-winning Exploring the World of Japanese Craft Sake: Rice, Water, Earth. Her articles have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Saveur, Food & Wine, and Civil Eats.
Shakirah Simley is an advocate, organizer, and policy strategist with over 20 years of experience in social justice, food, gender, and racial equity. She is currently the Executive Director of the Booker T. Washington Community Service Center, the oldest Black-led and serving nonprofit in SF. Previously, she served as the inaugural Director of the Office of Racial Equity for San Francisco. A Fulbright Scholar and University of Pennsylvania graduate, she has been featured in major publications and honored for her transformative work. Born in Harlem, she has lived in SF for more than16 years.
When the Covid-19 pandemic ripped through global food supply chains, it threatened the livelihoods of farmers, created shortages in supermarkets, and revealed a startling truth to consumers: the food system is broken, and large corporations did the breaking.
