(*NEW ARRIVAL*) (Belarusian) Смак беларускай кухні. Вкус белорусской кухни. The Taste of Belarusian Cuisine
Illus. throughout. 11.75x9.5", pictorial boards. First Edition. Belarus: Dzianis Romaniuk, 2019.
Belarusian cuisine entered my life almost from birth - if not with mother's milk, then with pancakes from grandmothers and great-grandmothers. The craze for vintage kitchens began in 2000. It was a mystical story when I found reprints of recipes dating from the middle of the 19th century in a book without a cover and with burnt pages that someone had thrown away. This is how my first acquaintance with historical cuisine happened. It is clear that I prepared almost all the dishes from this unique edition and realized that ancient Belarusian cuisine is my passion. And if someone is very interested in something, then it is incredible to find the right information and meet people who are also interested in history and cooking. Libraries, archives, meetings with historians, connoisseurs and experts, as well as with ordinary people who remember the old times, gave an impetus to the in-depth study of the history of Belarusian cuisine. Besides, I am a cook by profession.
Hence, theory has always been supported by practice. I was not only very interested in finding out who, when and under what circumstances paid for this or that dish, but I also wanted to enjoy the exquisite royal dessert myself and feel like a monarch. For more than ten years, I have been going on culinary expeditions around Belarus and near abroad, where our compatriots live, with the aim of finding and writing down unique recipes. Very often I managed to learn from grandmothers about dishes whose technology has not changed for centuries, to record names that have been lost and forgotten, to see and taste unexpected but incredibly tasty combinations of ingredients. I carefully archived all the collected materials, and, of course, cooked according to these recipes, made them freely available on the Internet, used them for my cooking shows on radio and television, gave interviews to newspapers, magazines, Internet portals and myself , as a journalist, I constantly write about Belarusian cuisine for various publications. A lot of material has accumulated, five books have already been published, and you are holding the sixth in your hands. Moreover, all editions are different and unlike each other. Belarusian cuisine is unique, it has a rich history and centuries-old traditions, and you can talk about it endlessly.
