Sindh: Recipes and Stories from a Forgotten Land (Sapna Ajwani)
This book is an homage to the unheard voices of the displaced people of Sindh; those who became refugees in their own country after the Partition of British India in August of 1947. It tells their story not through geographic and political maps and borders but through the history of their kitchens and of their food.
Born and developed on the banks of the Indus, Sindh has witnessed many people - from the Aryans and Alexander the Great to the Maruyas, the Umayyad Caliphate, and others, including the British - pass through its land. This book takes the reader on a 5,000-year journey through this ancient land, which eventually influenced what people ate since the Indus Valley Civilization - one of the oldest societies in the world. 150 recipes illustrate the rich cuisine and culture of the area.
