$95.00
/
170 pp. Dec. flexible cloth wrappers. First Edition. Battle Creek, MI: R.W. Snyder, [1903].
An early cookbook from the seat of America's health movement: Battle Creek, Michigan. R.W. Snyder was a maker of extracts, and this book was given away with every purchase of one dollar worth of product. Recipes include plenty of meat, including frogs on toast, lobster chops, squab pie, etc. However, there are also numerous healthful recipes including grape-nut muffins, tryabita bread, Graham bread, eggs a la goldenrod, etc. There is also a list of ingredients and their qualities and seasonality ("Plovers should be fat and have pliable feet").
Fair condition with ripped endpapers and much dogearring, but still complete and scarce.
