More a memoir than a manual, an invitation to the reader to share the eccentric, eventful life she enjoyed with Gertrude Stein. The Alice B. Toklas Cookbook mixes reminiscences and recipes. The most famous recipe, contributed by her friend Brion Gysin, is for “Haschich Fudge”, a mixture of fruit, nuts, spices, and “canibus sativa” or marijuana. Fine in slightly cracked slipcase.
