(Cocktails - Rum) Imported Tanduay Rum "Liquor of Everyman."
$85.00
/
Illus. Folding booklet that unfolds to 11x7.5" (like a treasure map), with several rum recipes. First Edition. San Francisco: Celestin, [1939].
Most likely issued as a giveaway at the 1939 World's Fair on Treasure Island (because the owner has helpfully penned, "Treasure island, Aug. 9, 1939" at the top of the rear page). The company made Malaysian rum, imported by Celestin in San Francisco, and the pamphlet tells the story of the "cruel Malays" and "other Chinamen", as well as pirates, dating it to the era of open racism. Meanwhile, the cocktails suggested sound sublime: Mindoro rum fizz, hot grog, Tanduay daiquiri, pirate's curse, Mandalay cocktail, etc. Fine.
