(**NEW ARRIVAL**) [Elizabeth David] Blencowe, Ann. The Receipt Book of Ann Blencowe - A.D. 1694
Ia portion of her Cipher Journal Edited by her great-grandson the late Bartle Grant with a portrait and decorations by Duncan Grant. Blue cloth. No. 113 of 850 copies. Soho: The Nonesuch Press, 1924.
Elizabeth David's copy, with oval bookplate mounted to front pastedown, and laid in is one page of Elizabeth David's notes on various recipes including reminder to "see Anne Blencowe much earlier" version. The Receipt Book of Mrs Ann Blencowe is celebrated for popularizing classic recipes like the "Everlasting Syllabub," which was no doubt an important contribution to David's knowledge in writing her book, Syllabubs and Fruit Fools. In fact, David provides her own "Twentieth Century" version of Everlasting Syllabub to pages 7-8 of that book.
Belncowe's ecipes and remedies were compiled from one manuscript, kept within the family for many generations. Recipes also include For Honeycomb Cakes, To Make Barbary Drope's, To Pickell Oysters, To Make Bisketts Mrs. B.'s way - Remedies include Dr. Meed's Certain Cure for the Bite of a Mad dog, and many more.
Sunning to spine, else very good.
