(*NEW ARRIVAL*) Eskew, Garnett Laidlaw. Salt: The Fifth Element - the Story of a Basic American Industry.
$75.00
/
Illus. by Mary Constance Enslow. Silver-lettered blue cloth, yellow and blue jacket. First Edition. Chicago: J.G. Ferguson, 1948.
Inscribed & signed from Graham Campbell to Herbert H. Sack on the front free endpaper; Sack was the second generation proprietor of Piedmont Grocery in Oakland, which his father began and is still in business today. No idea who Graham Campbell was.
A fascinating history of the salt industry, from Medieval Europe to modern day America, with special attention to Morton's (the book is in fact dedicated to Sterling Morton). Mild insect damage to front jacket panel, darkening to jacket spine, else very good and bright.
