(South Dakota) Ladies of Pierre. The Peerless Cook Book.
$300.00
/
136 pp. Interspersed with engraved ads for area businesses. Gilt-lettered stiff maroon wrappers lettered in gilt. Pierre, SD: Woman's Aid Society of the Congressional Church, 1891.
South Dakota achieved statehood in 1889, making this one of the state's first cookbooks. Recipes are attributed to residents of Pierre, such as apple pork, fried old chicken, hickorynut pie, lazy woman's pie, German coffee, watermelon preserves, etc. Rubbing to wrappers, long closed tear to rear free endpaper, some damage to several pages from sticky spots being pulled apart, still good and quite scarce.
